Use it from other apps
Both endpoints are on port 3001 and need no sign-in: keep that port on your local network.
OpenAI-compatible endpoint
Anything that talks to an OpenAI chat endpoint (a Home Assistant voice assistant, for example) can use Bibliup's
grounded chat. Base URL http://<host>:3001/v1, any API key. It searches DEFAULT_TRANSLATIONS and never reads
notes. Models are speed (default), flash, balanced and wide, with -voice (reads references aloud),
-youth / -kids and flash-voice-noconvo variants; GET /v1/models lists them.
curl -N http://<host>:3001/v1/chat/completions -H 'content-type: application/json' \
-d '{"model":"balanced","stream":true,"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"What does John 3:16 say?"}]}'
MCP
Your own assistant can search and read your library through MCP: read-only tools, attachable bibliup://
passages, chat's skills as commands (explain, devotional, summarise, crossReferences, word, compare and
the rest), and a make_image tool when images are on. Results are
your material verbatim; the answer is written by your assistant's model, not Bibliup's.
- Endpoint
http://<host>:3001/mcp. Set the client's protocol era to2026-07-28("modern"): a legacyinitializeis answered400. - Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http bibliup http://<host>:3001/mcp. - Anything else:
{ "mcpServers": { "bibliup": { "type": "http", "url": "http://<host>:3001/mcp" } } }(an entry withouttypeis read as stdio and skipped). - The Apocrypha stays out of searches unless you add
?includeApocrypha=1to the URL. - Try it in a browser: the stack runs the MCP Inspector with Bibliup already registered. Open the URL printed
by
docker compose logs inspectorand switch the bibliup server on.
