Searching
Search from the box on Home. It looks through everything you can reach at once: Bibles, word studies, dictionaries, commentaries, books, audio transcripts, quotes, and your own notes and bookmarks. Results come back word for word, and each one opens where it was found.
What to type
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
A reference, like John 3:16 | That verse, looked up directly rather than ranked |
Several references, like Psalm 23, 121, 139 | Each of them, not the chapters between |
| Words or a question | The passages that match best, from every kind of source |
How it matches
Open Search options (beside the results, or the button above them on a phone) and pick under Match:
| Match | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Best | Almost always. It weighs the exact words and the meaning together |
| Meaning | You want passages about an idea, even in different words |
| Exact | You want only passages with the words you typed |
Search in narrows the search to some sources. To search inside one book, Bible or talk, use Search inside this on its page.
Good to know
- Books open at the paragraph the result came from, and audio at the moment in the talk.
- Search writes nothing of its own. Every result is something in your library.
- If part of your library could not be read, the results say they may be incomplete rather than leaving it out without a word. Try again in a moment.
- A sharper ranking is available once the host turns on the reranker (see Audio, images and AI models).
